What's New in V6.10
The following changes were made in the major upgrade from Make
and MKMF v6.0x to v6.10.
The following changes were made in the upgrade from Make v6.0x
to v6.10.
- New Microsoft Visual SourceSafe v4.x support. You can now
access the files and subprojects of a project and recurse
through the subprojects.
- New MKS Source Integrity support. You can access file
lists from projects and sandboxes.
- Visual C++ 2.x and 4.x compatibility and integration are
greatly improved.
- COFF (32-bit), OMF and OMF86 object libraries are
supported for all Intel versions of Make and object
library support is now much faster.
- New .SEARCH directive adds file-specific search
directories. This enhances the extension-specific search
directories of the .PATH.ext macros.
- New support of double-quoted file names, recursive macro
definitions and "\" and "/"
equivalence in file names. These are controlled with the
new .OPTIONS directive.
- New %getenv directive accesses environment variables that
were hidden by predefined macros of the same name.
- All macros predefined by Make can be redefined.
- MKS and GNU RCS support has been enhanced for proper
handling of GMT-based storage file timestamps.
- The %echo directive can now be used to format messages
better.
The following changes were made in the upgrade from Make v6.0x
to v6.10.
- MKMF can do dependencies for listed object files, from
which it determines the source files to be scanned. This
has the advantage that object files with path names show
up in the makefile. Previously, source files were given
to MKMF and their resultant object files never had path
names: you had to use a .PATH macro to locate the object
files.
- The source file name can appear in the object-file
dependencies. The command-line option "o"
can appear as "oh" (heirarchical
dependency output) or "os" (sorted
dependency output). Now it also can appear as
"oh+" or "os+". The
"+" adds the source file name as the first
dependency of the object file.
- The RC file support has been enhanced to recognize more
Resource Compiler keywords.
- Trigraph support of ??= (which represents the
# character), ?? (^) and
??! (|) has been added.
- MKMF now uses exactly the same rule finding mechanism as
does Make for mapping between object files and source
files.
